BMW Safaris began in 1994 with a trip from Sydney to Fraser Island. These events are unique to Australia. There are three different types. 1. TS Safari – An on road tour where pillion riders can join in the fun. 2. GS Safari – For GS models focused on off road riding linked together with twisty roads. 3. GS Safari Enduro – The Enduro is generally more remote, more challenging or both.
BMW Safaris run for 5 to 7 days as a point to point tour. The start and finish can be at the same location. It’s not a guided tour. The route is marked, route maps and GPS files are provided. Riders go at their own pace and take in sights along the route. While some rides have been revisited and may be similar, no two Safaris have been the same. Riders are unaware of their destination until just before they arrive. Every Safari is a new adventure. The last BMW GS Safari held in Tasmania was in 2014.
Riders from all states will attend in 2022. The majority are from NSW and VIC. On Safari Week 1 there are 5 international participants, 2 from Canada and 3 from Chile.
Participants have the option to freight their Motorcycles to Hobart and fly in or to ride their Motorcycles onto the Spirit of Tasmania and sail across. This event  is hotel stays only, no camping. Each event week has 6 nights of included hotel accommodation. (155 rooms per night on week 1 and 75 rooms per night for week 2) Participants can select to have single room or twin share. Accommodation includes 5 dinners and 5 breakfasts, a welcome and closing function. A substantial amount of revenue is turned over at each location including up to $200 a day in fuel and additional food and beverages. Riders cover between 300-400km per day. This event takes in the very best Tasmania has to offer.
